Intro to Fused Glass - 3 Week Class
Introduction to Fused Glass
Instructor: Sheri Fraser
Mondays, September 14-28 5:30-8:30pm
No Experience Necessary!
Many people are familiar with the traditional art of stained glass, but fused glass has been working its way into the spotlight over the last several decades! This art form is a favorite for creating functional pieces like plates and bowls, as well as amazing decorative items, by melting glass in a kiln.
This introductory course is designed to give you the absolute basics of fused glass. At the end of 3 sessions, you will be ready to work independently on whatever beginner projects you choose. You will learn:
-Fusing basics: full fuse, contour/tack fuse, and slump
-What to expect glass to do in the kiln
-What type of glass to use and how to find it in our store, along with all the other supplies available
-Where to find and how to use the tools available in our classroom! (and we'll teach you to cut glass if you don't already know how!)
-If you own a kiln, the instructor will spend some time working with you to make sure you feel confident (and if you decide to buy a kiln, your class discount will apply! We stock 2 sizes and can order more.)
We will provide materials and kiln firings for two small projects on the first night. Starting in class two, you'll create projects of your choice (don't worry, we'll have some ideas for you!) Shopping for materials is part of the instruction; suggested projects are 6-10"; plan to spend about $100 on materials and supplies that will last well beyond your first few projects!
