Sunflower Meadow Fusing Stencil

This plastic stencil is a fave for working with powder frit!  It is reusable and cleans easily with soap and water if needed.

Stencil Size: 6"x 6" or 12"x12"

Our process:

Make sure glass and stencil are clean

Prop glass up on something level so you can easily pick it up without sliding (we use a few small paper cups) and place everything on a newspaper or other surface that can be picked up to clean your space.

Make tabs with tape to place on the stencil so it will be easy to pick it straight up when done!

Use a powder frit sifter to gently spread frit across the stencil.   Start with your background colors and build up to the color you want at the top! 

When completely covered, spray with aerosol hairspray (get nice and far back, and straight above. You don't want to blow the frit off the glass, just apply an even coating that floats down onto it).

Use the tabs to lift the stencil straight up (the hairspray will help keep the extra frit stay on the stencil). Move it away from your glass without tipping it.  If you are going to save the frit (if you haven't mixed colors), you can tip it onto a clean piece of newspaper, then fold the paper and dump the frit back in the bottle.

We fire single layer stenciled glass to a tack or light contour fuse, and encourage you to use opaque backgrounds to get the most out of your frit! (frit tends to disappear on clear and transparent backgrounds). Be mindful with using opaque or transparent frit for different results, and as always, it is recommended that you wear a mask when working with powder frit.
