90 COE Red Opal
Bullseye Red Opal Fusible Glass 90 COE
This is a Bullseye Color that Strikes. Bullseye produces some glasses that appear pale or even colorless in their cold form but “strike” or mature to a target color when fired to the right temperature. Stained glass and mosaic makers should beware of striking glasses. The unfired sheet colors for strikers vary widely and may not be suitable.
For Kiln formers/glass fusers: some glasses appear pale or colorless and “strike” (i.e. change) to the target color only after reheating. Keep in mind that the resulting color may vary depending on variations in the temperature, atmosphere or amount of heat work. For example, rapidly heating Ruby Red Tint Striker (BE 1824 30F) during the initial stages of a firing cycle can prevent the glass from correctly striking and give it a blue-brown cast (the sapphirine effect) as opposed to the Ruby Red color that develops with more conservative initial rates of heat.
For projects that are especially color-sensitive, we recommend fusing or torchworking a small sample of your glass before use, to best understand the final color result. If you will not be putting this glass in the kiln, contact us before ordering so we can send a photo of the raw glass!
The 2nd and 3rd photos show an actual piece of glass in our studio, before firing, then at multiple temperature firings. The glass did not fully strike solid until full-fuse temperature. The 5th picture shows the glass backlit before any firing.
