We have been doing Flame Working for a while. This picture shows our first set up in our low location. We were 20 years at 10 Railroad Square in Waterville, Maine. We did love it. It was old and funky. I wish this picture showed more. The wall the torch is facing was cement. It was all black from the flame. No room to more it farther away. We made use of every inch we had! It became difficult. Glass was stored downstairs. It was hard to get it down there and hard to get it back up! Kilns were also stored down there, and the classes were held downstairs. Lots of issues. Folks with bad knees having difficulty getting down and up. It was a Maine cellar. Parts of the floor would be wet from time to time, and it was a bit gloomy. A group led, by Lucie Boucher came in one week when I was on vacation and painted it yellow. It really was a giant improvement.
This set up is one you can do at home. You get a Hot Head Torch and attach it to a butane tank (also known as an Mapp gas Canister) which you can buy at hardware store or the box stores. Make it easy on yourself and buy a holder and you are good to go!

We have come a long way. This is our current flame room at 966 Western Ave., Manchester, Maine. We think it is totally special!
These pictures show how we get our gas and oxygen. Gas is piped directly in from a 1000-gallon LP storage tank. Oxygen comes from Oxygen Generators. It is a wonderful set up.
We are distributors for Bethlehem Burners and Olympic Kilns so that is what we use for Bench Burners and Annealing Kilns.

There are set ups between these two. You could have a bench burner set up to a 3-gallon propane tank and gas tank. Both would have to be refilled. For a home setup, it is not a bad plan.
