There are different backings, different widths, different thicknesses, different surfaces and even a decorative choice and sheets! There is a reason for all of them!

BACKINGS
Choices are copper, black or silver.
Copper (both sides) can be used on opalescent glass where the adhesive side cannot be seen or on cathedral glass where the solder will be patinaed copper (to match the visible copper adhesive side.)
Black Back. Used with Cathedrals, mirror and clears where the adhesive back side is visible and the solder will be patinaed black.
Silver Back. Used with cathedrals, mirror and clears where the adhesive backside is visible and the solder will be left natural (silver).
WIDTHS
The wider the foil the larger your lead line will be. If you want a heavy look, get a wide foil. If you want a fine line, get a narrow foil. If you are using a heavy textured glass like ripple, you may need a wider foil just to get coverage and holding power. Copper back is available in the most widths. 5/32”, 3/16”, 7/32”, ¼”, 5/16”, 3/8” and ½”. Black back and silver back are available in fewer sizes.
THICKNESS
The thicker the mil, the more natural reinforcement the foil brings to your project. You can feel the difference when you are folding it over. Possible thicknesses are 1., 1.5 and 3 mil. Again, copper has the most options. On Venture copper back foil, the color of the core that the foil is wrapped around indicates the mil. 1 mil is purple, 1.5 is orange and 3 mil is red.
SURFACE
Copper and silver are the options.
Copper is the standard and will usually be covered with solder.
Silvered looks silver on both sides. Often used when for some reason a surface is not going to be soldered and you want it to look silver.
DECORATIVE
New Wave is a scalloped “wave” along one edge. Gives visual interest to your project.
SHEETS
