Just the Basics—Beadmaking

It is possible to fuse or cast beads, but the most popular right now is the mandrel-wound method.

This picture show students using hot head torches and map gas.  This is a relatively easy and inexpensive way to get started with bead making.

You will also need:

Mandrels (to wrap the hot glass around)

Didymium glasses (a must)

Tweezers

Pliers

Bead release

Marvers and paddles

Picks, pokes, and rakes

Bench brush

Squashers or mashers

Rod cutter

Rod rest

Miscellaneous tools like paring knife, spoons, saucers.

You also need a kiln or a way to anneal the beads.
